Founded in 1806 and headquartered in Mumbai, SBI is India’s largest Public Sector Bank in terms of assets, deposits, profits, branches, number of customers and employees, enjoying the continuing faith of millions of customers across the social spectrum. The Bank also has extensive international presence with 198 branches/offices overseas. In an early delineation of priorities, SBI enunciated its Green Banking Policy nearly a decade back. Among the initiatives rolled out are its own windmills installed for captive power consumption – a first in the Indian banking industry. SBI has also entered into agreements with Multilateral/Bilateral agencies for lines of credit for supporting Grid Connected Rooftop Solar and other projects in the RE space. SBI has been presented “Outstanding Performance Award-2016” by the Government of India for measures taken to support the Renewable Energy sector in the country. Additionally, the National Excellence Award for Rooftop Solar Power Projects was also won by the Bank in 2016.
